How To Avoid Cancellations While "The Check Is In The Mail"

Steps which should help avoid turning away valuable bookings from vacation rental guests while you're waiting for a “check in the mail."

  • #1 NEVER mark your calendar until it's booked! Booked means having a legal and financial commitment (deposited money and signed rental contract) in hand.

When a renter calls, if they cannot commit, make it clear to them that you don't hold the dates until you have their money. This will give them the sense of urgency to get their check to you right away.

  • #2 Accept credit cards. Take the credit card number upon booking. This alleviates the time delay of waiting for payments mailed.  Don't forget to require the renter to sign and fax back the contract within 24 hours. Be clear that the signed contract and deposit is what officially holds the reservation.
