Christine's Blog: Vacation Rental Highs and Lows (7/1/2008)
Christine discusses some unexpected bookings and a vacation rental obstacle.
Hi everyone!
Hot dog! I had a great booking day on Friday! I took four bookings (for different properties) for weeks that don't normally book. It's amazing the natural high I get when I land a booking for a week that typically doesn't book - it's like winning the lottery! (Not the big jackpot of course, but kind of like winning one of the smaller prizes.) My husband was laughing at me saying I was grinning from ear to ear!
Then on Saturday I came off my high when my housekeeper called me at 3:30pm and said she was running really behind and still had not gotten to my place - my check in time is 3pm! She said she was on her way but asked me to call the guests and warn them that they might run into her. So I looked to see who was coming in, and as bad luck seems to follow me, these guests were coming from only a couple hours away (normally my guests travel anywhere between 6 and 10 hours.)
I called them and sure enough they were only 30 minutes away! I apologized profusely as I told them that they might run into the housekeeper since she was running behind. They were so nice about it, and said, “Don't worry, we debated about stopping for dinner before or after we got there or after. So we'll simply stop first.” ~ Another disaster avoided!
Though I was a bit annoyed with my housekeeper, I was extremely grateful that she called me and told me. This way the arriving guests didn't have to start their vacation on the wrong foot. By the time they arrived the place was spic and span, clean and ready for them.
Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!
Christine
