Christine's Blog: A Last-Minute Lock Change (11/27/07)

Christine deals with renters who forget to return the keys to her property-- and the backup set.

Hi everyone!

Last week I was going to be thankful if our phone didn't ring during Thanksgiving dinner. And thankfully it didn't ring! Everything was pretty much smooth sailing with all my rentals except for one hiccup.

My renters called and said there was only one key in the lockbox. So rather than disturb my housekeeper and have them come out, I gave the renter the code to my back-up lock box. I told her that she MUST promise to put it back in the lockbox. So guess what? She never put it back, and not only that she never put the original key back either! My housekeeper showed up and there was no way for her to get in. I had to call a locksmith and have them pick the lock—so while they were there I just had them re-key the lock too. Ugghhhh $110 later my housekeeper got in and cleaned.

Surprisingly the holiday weekend was pretty good for inquiries. Though I think that there were a lot of window shoppers out because I only booked one of them.

Have a good week!

Christine

PS: Don't forget about the Destin Seminars this weekend!
