Christine's Blog: Accommodating a Guest with Allergies (11/24/08)

Christine handles a renter who shows up at her property and has an allergic reaction.

Hi everyone!

Last week I was on the road giving seminars. I taught 6 seminars in 72 hours. I didn’t have much time to eat or sleep, so blogging was the furthest thing from my mind.

Friday, I received a call from a renter who was booked in one of my cabins. She arrived and immediately had an allergic reaction while inside. She was very sincere and apologetic in her complaint and said the only thing that she’s allergic to is cats. Since I too am allergic to cats, I never allow cats in my rentals, but it seems that someone might have snuck one in.

Thankfully, I have another cabin right next door, which I was able to move her into without any problem. She was very sweet about the whole thing, apologizing to me for the trouble. She even offered to pay extra (the other cabin is bigger), which, of course, I refused. It is so nice when there are easy solutions to problems.

So when I called my housekeeper to inform her that my renters switched cabins, I also made a point to ask her to go back into that other cabin to do a deep clean. Hopefully, that’ll get rid of the cat dander. Thankfully, I don’t have carpet—only hardwood floors.

This week, all of my properties are being decorated for the holidays! If you have renters who’ll be in your vacation rental during the holidays, you may want to consider adding some holiday décor too!

Have a lovely Thanksgiving!

Christine
