Tips for Buying a Couch for your Vacation Rental Home

Choose the most reliable, durable and comfortable couch for your vacation home

When travelers rent out your home, they expect a decent level of comfort. Considering that the couch is probably the most important part of the living area, it is essential that you invest in a good piece of furniture that provides your renters with the utmost level of comfort and luxury. After a long day out, a comfortable couch can be an amenity in itself. When selecting a couch you should keep your renters in mind and select something durable.
Here are a few things to keep in mind to get the ‘ouch' out of your couch and buy the perfect piece of furniture to help your renters relax and enjoy your home a little more.

Frame
It is important that you buy a couch with a solid frame. A sturdy frame means a long-lasting sofa. Wood, such as pine, is definitely low cost but at the same time it is soft and could eventually wobble. Hardwood such as kiln-dried oak, ash or beech is more expensive but at the same time it is more reliable and durable. Frames made of plastic or metal should be avoided if possible.

Fabric
You should try to use a fabric that is not just comfortable but also durable. For example, even though cotton and linen would be easy to clean, a couch completely covered in these materials is not such a good idea since it may lose its shape. A mix of natural and synthetic fabrics might be a better option.Synthetic microfiber can mimic most fabrics and is also stain resistant. Wool and leather look great and are usually strong, but they tend to be expensive. If you decide to go in for patterns, it is a better idea to go for fabric that has the pattern woven into the fabric as they tend to wear better than those with the pattern printed on.

Size
You also need to be certain to pick out the right sized couch for your space. Use a measuring tape to measure the exact size of the area. When you go in to buy a couch make sure you share this information with the salesperson so that he/ she can guide you. You don';t want to end up with something too small or overpowering for your space available. Depending on how large your space is, you might consider adding a cozy love seat.

Seating/Sleeping
It is a good idea to have enough seating room for the number of people your home sleeps. If you cannot fit enough permanent seating in your living room, consider having folding chairs on hand. On the same note, you might think it is a good idea to buy a sleeper couch so that there is more room for people to sleep. Although this is a great idea, many sleeper couches can be uncomfortable because they use a mattress instead of springs and it tends to eventually sag. Try to avoid futons for your main living area. Unless it is absolutely necessary, you're better off using a regular couch.

Remember, if renters enjoy their experience at your vacation home, most chances are that they may not be able to refrain from making another trip! Allow them a luxurious and comfortable experience and you could also win yourself some great reviews!
