Offering In-House Spa Services to Your Vacation Rental Guests

If you own in a vacation rental market where many travelers go for spa getaways, you may be able to increase your rentals by targeting this segment.

If you own a luxury or high-end property (or want to reposition your home as one), you may want to consider offering in-house spa services to your guests. Or if you own in a vacation rental market where many travelers go for spa getaways (like Palm Desert, Barbados, Tucson, Hot Springs, or Colonial Williamsburg), you may be able to increase your rentals by targeting this segment.

Many travelers used to staying in high-end hotels are accustomed to calling down to the front desk to schedule a massage or spa pedicure. If you're competing with these hotels for customers, you may need to offer these services to lure prospective customers to stay in your house, condo, or cottage over the local spa resort.

To determine what services to have available to your guests, first research the luxury hotels in your area. Which services do they offer? In order to compete, you'll want to offer comparable services at comparable rates.

Next, you're going to need to find local spa professionals who will do house calls. In certain markets you can easily coordinate appointments with a mobile spa company, while in others you may have to work a bit harder to find a licensed massage therapist or spa pro that will travel to your vacation home.

After you've secured a few key partners, you should update your ads to reflect the services available to your rental guests. Be sure to be as specific as possible about the services available. For example, “Onsite spa services available upon request. Enjoy a relaxing deep tissue massage, spa pedicure, customized facial, or body wrap.” Consider changing your headline to reflect your property's newfound suitability (e.g. “Luxury Spa Retreat Perfect for Weekend Getaways w/ Views.”)

Consider offering spa vacation packages by bundling spa services with your rental rate (e.g. Honeymoon Spa Package which includes 3 nights in your cabin rental, a couple's massage, and a bottle of champagne).

Beyond offering access to in-house spa services, consider bringing a bit of the spa experience to all of your vacation rental guests. Consider leaving a couple plush bathrobes in each bathroom or providing a welcome basket filled with aromatherapy bath products for each of your guests.

At minimum, if you'd like to attract travelers seeking a spa getaway, be sure to have a list nearby full-service spas in your vacation rental listings.
