Creating an Office at Your Vacation Rental

Follow these tips to create a functional workspace for business and leisure travelers alike.

Wireless internet access at the vacation rental has become more of a standard than an amenity in many vacation rental markets. But have you considered creating a more efficient workstation for your busier renters? As business travelers begin utilizing vacation rentals more frequently and leisure vacationers continue to travel with laptops in tow, advertising a functional office at your vacation rental could be a draw for many renters. Even if you don't have an extra room in your home, you can still create a more functional work area than your dining room table.

Wow the executives with these ergonomic must-haves:

• An out-of-the-way desk with ample work space
• WiFi
• Phone (possibly with free long distance service)
• Fax machine
• Scanner
• Printer
• Printer paper
• Pens and scratch paper
• Stapler, paper clips and other basic office supplies
• Calculator
• Calendar

Creating a booklet of business resources would be an added touch. Include office supply stores, copy and printing facilities, post offices, and even the technical support line for your Internet provider. Be sure to also post your mailing address somewhere that is easily accessible in case renters are expecting deliveries.

To complete the office, you might even consider including a desktop computer. Use your listing to advertise that renters don't have to lug their laptops on the plane because you have provided all the office necessities.

It is not essential that you create a full-scale office with top of the line products, but adding a few tools and conveniences is a simple way to make your home stand out and to reach out to a different type of traveler.
