What to Do If You Can't See Changes Made to Your Listing
If you have modified your listing or added photos and the page said “photos saved” or “changes saved,” then most likely you are not seeing the changes/photos on your listing because you are looking at an old cached page on your hard drive and you need to clear your cache. In other words you need to refresh the page in your browser.
What is a cache? A cache is temporary storage of web pages on your hard disk. The first time you view a page, the page is retrieved from the website. If you request this same page again, the browser checks to see if this page is available in cache. For example, if you use the Back button to re-display a page, the cache can display the page more quickly than retrieving the page from the website a second time.
Sometimes you might not want a page to be retrieved from cache. The page you displayed initially may be different than the page currently offered by the website. If a modification to a particular URL has occurred, you may want to see the updated page rather than the copy in cache. Your browser settings (and some contained in the page you requested itself) usually dictate how often your browser requests the page from the website vs. getting it from your cache.
To Clear Your Cache Press the F5 key on your keyboard. If this does not work, then simply click the Refresh/Reload button while holding down the Ctrl key (Option key on Macintosh) to force the browser to get the page from the website.
If the above remedy did not clear your cache, below are a few general links to resources explaining how to clear your cache.
http://support.lexis-nexis.com/lexiscom/record.asp?ArticleID=wg_cache&vcRef=1
http://is.asu.edu/instruction/training/clearcache.html
Also note that some ISPs (AOL, Yahoo, etc.) will have a caching server that works similarly to your browser's cache. To help reduce traffic, your ISP may also cache the page and return it to your browser without making a page request to the original website. There is no way to clear your ISPs cache except to wait for it to refresh on its own (usually a few minutes or hours).
How to Change Your VacationRentals.com Email Address
To change the email address associated with your account at VacationRentals.com you will need to login to your account by going to: http://www.vacationrentals.com.
Click on “Owner Sign In” located on the top navigation bar. Once logged in go to “Contact Preferences" on the top right under "Main Menu." Your password will be required and you will need to enter your security question answers. Once that's taken care of, any of your contact information can be modified.
The change will not be become effective until it is confirmed/verified by clicking on a special confirmation link that is emailed to you at the new email address after the request for the change has been submitted. The link must be clicked on to verify and save the change in your account. Please make sure you have the ability to read email at the new email address before making the change.
NOTE: In certain email programs, the link may not be clickable. If this happens, you can copy the link and paste it into the URL window of your browser. Then, simply press enter to make the verification.
WARNING: If an email address you are attempting to use is already registered by another account, your submission to change to the new email address won't work. If this is the case, we recommend you find the usernames and passwords for both accounts and work within the two accounts by transferring listings between them. Account information can be sent to you via email here: http://www.vacationrentals.com/members/login.asp.
How to Add Two Email/Contacts to One Account
VacationRentals.com only allows one email address contact per account. If you need to use separate contact email addresses for listings, you will have to create a new and separate account for the listing. To do so, simply register again creating a new and separate account (do not use the same user name). If you have existing listings you would like to move to the new account, you will need to contact customer service and they can transfer the listing for you.
How to Transfer Listings Between Accounts
It is easy to transfer a listing between VacationRentals.com accounts, just email Customer Service. Before they can transfer a listing, though, they will need permission from the original account owner. So, if you're a new owner and you're going to take over an existing account, you will need permission from the current account owner. You can ask the current account owner to write customer service granting them permission to transfer the account to you. Of course, you'll also need a VacationRentals.com account to receive the transferred listing.
How to Make Sure That VacationRentals.com Emails Reach You
Emails originating from VacationRentals.com can take time to propagate through the system, as well as get to your inbox. The delay is the same for all inquiries. If inquiries are shown in your VacationRentals.com inquiry box, VacationRentals.com's servers have sent them out. Also keep in mind, there may be a delay at your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The emails may have been filtered out by your ISPs SPAM filters, or placed in your bulk or trash folder.
If you feel enough time has elapsed and the email should have arrived at your email account there are several possibilities:
- Most of the time the reason your emails are not being delivered to your personal email account is because your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is blocking emails as spam or you have an email filter on your email account. This does seem to occur commonly with many free email accounts. Please contact your ISP about this problem.
- If the email address used by the sender is incorrect or misspelled, it will get copied to your VacationRentals.com inquiry box, but will not get to your personal inbox because internet mail servers will not deliver mail if the sender email address is not valid/active.
ISPs are constantly looking for ways to fight spam. Unfortunately, they sometimes prevent “wanted” email in the process. Please work with your ISP to eliminate the problem.
How VacationRentals.com Listings Are Sorted
VacationRentals.com displays properties for the sole purpose of formatting information in the best way possible for potential renters. Properties are sorted from lowest to highest based on: first, the number of bedrooms, second, the number of bathrooms, third, the number of people the property sleeps. VacationRentals.com does not sort on items that are open to interpretation or items that owners may have subjective views about where their property falls within that category, such as property rates or type of building. Also, VacationRentals.com does not manually move listings up and down in the list.
The listings' positions naturally fluctuate as new properties are added and removed. This system gives owners equal exposure and helps travelers find the property best suited to their vacation needs. As always, potential renters are able to sort properties in several ways by simply clicking on the "sort by" column at the top of the display.
How to Restore Disabled Listings on Vacation Rentals.com
Expired listings on VacationRentals.com remain in our system forever, so you can login and reactivate the same listing at any time in the future without having to create an entirely new listing. To restore a disabled listing, you'll need to log in and make a payment.
If you want the listing to be disabled before the listing expires, you can login to your account and click “Hide”. When you're ready to restore it (if it's still within the paid term), click “Show” next to the listing to make it live on the site again.
