Seven Tasks That Should Be on Your Maintenance Schedule
Regular maintenance of your property will provide a more pleasant stay for your renters as well as increase the life of your home and amenities.
- Schedule regular chimney and fireplace cleaning and inspection. General rule of thumb is to clean after each cord of wood burned.
- Schedule regular pest control.
- Schedule regular landscape maintenance and snow removal.
- Schedule regular carpet cleaning.
- Schedule a deep cleaning at least once a year, including cleaning the carpets, washing throw rugs, curtains and blinds, ovens, baseboards, and steam cleaning sofas, etc.
- For owners who close their property for the winter, schedule a maintenance person or housekeeper to check on your property during the closed season.
- Once every two years, schedule an inspection of breaker panels and plug receptacles (especially in salt-water areas because salt corrodes wiring and causes malfunctions and fire hazards).
