Christine's Blog: Getting My Mistakes Out of the Way (2/10/09)

Christine is relieved to have made a couple of minor mistakes early in the year.

Hi Everyone!

Did you ever just have one of “those” weeks? Well last week was mine. Every time I turned around I did something wrong and had to turn right back around and fix whatever I screwed up.

While updating my ads with new photos that I took over Christmas, I put the wrong photos on the wrong property. I figured it out pretty quickly, but as luck would have it, someone had inquired about the home and saw the wrong photos.  Imagine trying to explain that one to a renter.

Then I sent the wrong cleaning dates to my housekeeper. She showed up and called me and said, “Christine your renters never stayed here.” Of course I panicked, thinking something was wrong, only to find out that I had told my housekeeper the check-in date rather than the checkout date.

Well the way I look at it is it's better to get the stupid mistakes out of the way early in the season. When it';s really busy, all the kinks will be worked out.

I had my seminars this past weekend in Houston. It was a full house! We also had a networking event afterwards in the hotel bar. It was really nice to be able to have casual conversations with everyone. I would love to be able to do these in every city but realize it might not always be feasible. But you don't have to wait for me to come to town to get together with other owneres.  There are many ways you can do it on your own - just find a gathering spot and invite people to meet up!

Have a great week!

Christine

What silly mistakes have you made recently?

"I also a blooper and mixed up some of my guests. I thought honeymooners were checking into one of my rentals this week so we left flowers and a bottle of wine with an note saying "Congratulations and may you enjoy many wonderful years and memories together" When they checked in, it was not honeymooners at all but two friends traveling together. I discretely slipped the note off the table before they saw it and they thought the wine and flowers were just a great welcome gift. Ahh the honeymooners are next week!" - Marina, Puerto Rico (HomeAway #277495)
