Christine's Blog: A Non-Traditional Booking (9/16/08)

Christine is pleased to have landed a 10-week booking at her Panama City Beach condo.

Hi everyone!

My thoughts and prayers to everyone in Houston, Galveston and all the Hurricane Ike-affected areas! If you would like to assist anyone who was displaced by the storm, you can add your home to this list on HomeAway at the following link: http://www.homeaway.com/travel/site/ha/hurricane-ike.

This past week I scored a 10-week rental in my Panama City Beach condo! This is a bonus booking since typically Panama City Beach is empty from September though December.

It was a rather non-traditional booking. I got a call from a corporate relocation specialist who was looking for housing for some government employees that will be deployed to the area for a 10-week assignment. The contract had to be set up in the name of the relocation company, not the individual employee who would be staying in my place. The relocation company then takes full responsibility for any damages or theft on the company';s behalf. Since damage and theft are generally not a problem, that didn';t worry me too much. My main concern was the housekeeping. The guest would be a single male who would be working a fair amount. I immediately wondered if he would wash the sheets, clean the shower, mop the floors, etc. - 10 weeks is a long time to go without doing those things! So I was able to negotiate with the relocation company as well as my housekeeper to get the place cleaned twice a month (at their expense.)

Happy Renting!

Christine
